Abstract Art: VIBGYOR

Abstract Art by Sahra Hussain, title: VIBGYOR (24″H x 36″W)

VIBGYOR is a term in physics which stand for violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red.  This is in regards to the spectrum of light.  I always believed that color evokes emotion.  I believe you can feel color.

So what does color feel like?  You can say red feels like fire and blue feels like ice.  How would we describe these colors to Helen Keller? Yellow is warm like the sunshine.  Green is the smell of grass and plants.  Orange is like the taste of the actual fruit.

Is this how we describe these colors without actually seeing them?  Maybe.  We can also describe red as a feeling of anger and yellow as a feeling of happiness.  Indigo can be described as a feeling of sadness.  This is how we describe our emotions through color.

This particular style of painting is done in a geometric style using “V” like shapes and patterns.  I kept the brushstroke thick and heavy to give the painting texture.  The colors literally go from violet, indigo, blue, green yellow, orange and red to represent the term VIBGYOR.
